Community Health Assessment

A community health assessment (CHA) is defined by the CDC as “a systematic examination of the health status indicators for a given population that is used to identify key problems and assets in a community”.


The ultimate goal of a community health assessment is to develop strategies to address the community’s health needs and identified issues.

Mental and Behavioral Health

An increased need for mental and behavioral health services was expressed, especially for children and veterans.

Summary of the 2021 Elmore County Community Health Assessment

In addition, suicide and substance use were two specific issues noted as needing county-wide prevention strategies.

Residents expressed that improving on the built environment by:

  • increasing walkability among the cities

  • improving recreation trails access

  • adding bike lanes

    would help improve health by making outdoor physical activity more easily accessible.

Physical Activity and Outdoor Amenities

Local Health Care

Participants expressed the desire for more specialty care closer to or within Elmore County, and emphasized the need for more accessible & affordable health care.

Local health care facilities do an outstanding job at caring for the citizens of Elmore County but are not always able to provide specialty care to patients.
